The Federal Capial Territory (FCT), Commissioner of Police, Mr. Micheal Zoukumor on Friday assured that the command would comply with the directive of the Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr. M.D. Abubakar, that no suspect should be detained for more than 24 hours except on special situations that the police authorities approved.

Speaking when the new United Nations (UN) Security Advisor to Nigeria, Mr Yashpai Singh visited him in his office in Abuja, Zuokumor said unless it was necessary, henceforth nobody will be detained beyond the 24 hours permitted by law.

During the visit, Mr Singh had told the CP that he was in his office to solicit the cooperation of the command on security matters.

Colonel Remi Adeyemo, who introduced Singh to the commissioner, said the visit was to thank the command for the cooperation so far received on behalf of the UN,
He stated, "I want to thank you and your men for all the support you have been giving in terms of security concerns,” urging Zoukumor to extend a similar cooperation to the incoming advisor whom he described as an experienced colleague.

The commissioner thanked the outgoing Advisor and pledged to work closely with the incoming envoy.

On the directive of the Acting IGP, the CP said, "If it is a bailable offence, you release the person on bail and if the offence is not bailable you take him to court within 24 hours."

"We are complying with that directive because we follow the law."
