The Minister of Defence, Dr. Bello Haliru, has  denied any rift between him and military chiefs in the country.  Dr. Haliru said this while responding to a Saturday Tribune’s story published last weekend concerning posting of top military personnel which the minister, according to sources close to the military, said he must be aware of and endorse.
The minister, speaking through one Emeka Nwapa, said there was no rift between the two parties, adding that his door was open to all and sundry since he asumed office as minister.

“The minister is not at loggerheads with his service chiefs over any military postings whatsoever. It is important to emphasise that since he arrived at the ministry, he has opened his doors to the service chiefs at all times for adequate confidence-building. If anything at all, it can be said that the minister and his Minister of State, Erelu (Dr.) Olusola Obada, are in cordial relationship with all the service chiefs and members of staff of the ministry of defence," he said.

He said further that the minister "currently leads the ministry with a firm belief on trust and consultation with senior members of the ministry to promote the best interest of the Armed Forces in Nigeria towards  the cohesion and stability of the Federal Republic of Nigeria."

While calling for understanding of the peculiar position of the ministry in relation to the nation's security, the minister said he recently had an interactive session with the media on the need to work together and confirm sensitive issues with the ministry before publication.

He also said the military should be rest assured that the report did not reflect the situation on ground.

"Our military is, indeed, in its best moment as far as discipline, cohesion, professionalism and patriotism are concerned," he stated.
