NURTW dissociates self from disturbances

Share

The Lagos State council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has dissociated itself from the mayhem and public disturbance that have engulfed some parts of Lagos Island since last week.

This was contained in a press statement signed by the Lagos State secretary of the union, Mr Akin James. He explained that series of investigations carried out indicated that members of the union had no hand in the disorder going on in the area.

To buttress his point, James stated that none of those arrested so far in connection with the unrest by the law enforcement agents had any link with the union.

He pointed out that the problem in the area should be traced to the doorsteps of hoodlums and their godfathers who used street boys to settle political scores.

He explained that the Lagos State NURTW  was at peace, hence there was no need for members to engage in acts of violence.

He advised the law enforcement agencies not to succumb to diversionary tactics of those linking the union with disturbances in the state.
