NUJ Threatens Action Against FG

Share

The Nigeria Union of Journalists has threatened to withdraw reporters from covering any activities of government in Lagos State and the country in general over the closure of the press centre at the Presidential Wing of Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos, by the Protocol Department of the airport.

A statement signed by the National secretary, NUJ, Mr. Shuaibu Usman Leman yesterday in Abuja and made available to journalists described the closure as an attempt by the Federal Government to muzzle the press. It also  drew the attention of the government to the continuous oppression of the media by its security agencies.

It is recalled that last week, the media center located at the VIP lounge of the airport, a facility that had been made available to airport correspondents since the airport was built over 30 years ago, was sealed and journalists barred from gaining access to the building.
