Bayelsa Election: Nobody Can Stop PDP -Jonathan
President Goodluck Jonathan, on Friday, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, declared that nobody can work against the victory of the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] in the February 11, governorship election, saying from all indications, “We would win the poll”
Addressing a huge crowd that thronged Samson Siasia Sports Complex, venue of the campaign kick off of the party’s governorship candidate, Hon Henry Seriake Dickson, the president asserted that “Nobody can stop us. We have already won the election because majority of Bayelsans are behind us”
He expressed optimism that the PDP standard bearer and his running mate, Rear Admiral Jonah John, would work for the success of the state and bring about socio-economic development.
Jonathan stated: “I have strong belief that Dickson would live up to the expectation of the people and work assiduously for the growth of the state as a whole”.
Alleging the abandonment of projects inherited by the administration of former Governor Timipre Sylva, the president lamented that the five-star spiral hotel project, initiated by the government of the first executive governor of the state, Chief D.S.P Alamieyeseigha, which should have been an historical monument had become a monumental disgrace.”
Jonathan, who warned the PDP governorship candidate against poor performance, said, “The only thing I want to tell Dickson is that I was here sometimes ago when Bayelsans stoned former Governor Timipre Sylva to demonstrate their annoyance over dismal performance.
“You must work very hard to make sure that Bayelsans don’t stone you. The day I come here and you are stoned, I will join hand with them to stone you,” the president remarked.
Earlier, in his remarks, the PDP candidate, Honourable Dickson said, his administration, when elected would build synergy for development by promoting skills acquisition and empower the youth, stressing that “We are going to showcase integrity and accountability through the implementation of projects that have direct impact on the life of the citizenry.”
He assured that the provision of infrastructural facilities would be given topmost priority, while investors would also be attracted to Bayelsa to boost economic growth.
Dignitaries, who attended the ceremony, included the Vice President, Architect Namadi Sambo; Senate President, Senator David Mark; Minister of Labour, Mr. Emeka Wogu; Minister of Aviation, Mrs. Stella Uduak; former PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), Chief Tony Anenih; Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon Aminu Tambuwal; Rivers State governor, Rotimi Ameachi, and his Akwa Ibom State counterpart, Chief Godswill Akpabio.
