Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) is billed finally to organise its elective national convention in Benin, the Edo State capital, come September 26,  following the renaming of the party at an event which took place in Lagos last month.

The ACN is currently conducting registration of its members across the country preparatory to holding its congresses.

Saturday Tribune findings indicate that arrangements are in top gear by the party to ensure successful  hosting of the event that will witness the formal merger of all the political parties in the arrangement, including the defunct AC, Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) led by former Governor Attahiru Bafarawa, a faction of All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and Integrity Group.

Edo State governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, who is the chief host, is also said to be preparing to ensure that no stone is left unturned to achieve a successful outing for his party.

According to a source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the ACN is going to witness changes in its leadership structure at the convention, with new party officials expected to be elected to reflect the political merger.

However, it was learnt that current national chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Akande, is still expected to retain his position while the position of the National Secretary may be contested, among others.

Sources confided in Saturday Tribune that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has already been communicated by the party in line with Electoral Act and that the stipulated period required for notice to the commission would have been met on or before the scheduled September 26, date for the exercise.

The commission is being expected to monitor the exercise, just like it did for the renaming of the party last month.

Meanwhile, Saturday Tribune learnt that elective convention as well as the change of party’s name and flag would have taken place at the same time in Lagos last month, but for failure to meet the required six months’ period of notice to INEC for such exercise to take place.
