One person was on Friday shot dead and another injured  as armed robbers  invaded  two banks along  Idiroko Expressway  in Ota, Ogun State.

The identity of the deceased  victim of the robbery is still unknown as of press time, while the injured victim is one of the security personnel, who were on duty during the time of the robbers’ raid.

The armed robbers also reportedly  escaped  with  some officials of  one of the affected  banks  apparently in a bid to ward off attack from security operatives.

The robbery incident  paralysed  banking operations in the entire Sango Ota and other towns in Ogun State as all the banks in the area were forced to  close down  for the fear of attack from the robbers.

It also created fears and tension among the residents of the state as the armed robbers reportedly shot sporadically.

Saturday Tribune gathered that  a gang of about 10 armed men and a lady  had around 9:30a.m. invaded the Oju Ore junction area where the two banks are located.

Some of the residents and workers around the bus stop, while speaking with Saturday Tribune, marvelled at the level of confidence exhibited by the robbers as they operated  simultaneously in one  old and another new generation banks.

The robbers, on arrival, reportedly went straight to the new generation bank , where they reportedly got  no resistance from the security operatives.

The robbers were said to have gained entry into the banks by blowing  up the security doors with dynamites, before they ransacked the new generation bank and escaped with sacks of money,  suspected to be from the bank’s vault and from some of the customers  at the  bank’s counter.

A security man that was attached to the  old generation bank, situated  directly adjacent to the new generation bank, was shot  in the leg by the armed robbers for daring to stand in their way.

The robbers were also said to have  shot an unidentified man to death in the premises of the old generation bank, before finally leaving with some sacks of money as well as some officials of the bank.

The robbers  had for over 30 minutes forced motorists to abandon   the ever busy Idiroko Expressway, with shootings  that  made residents of the area to scamper for safety.

When Saturday Tribune visited the scene of the robbery, the two banks as well as other banks in the area were under lock and key with hundreds of prospective customers loitering around the unaffected banks.
