Senate Set To Debate States Creation

Share

Barring any unforseen circumstances, the Senate would soon begin  debate on states’ creation, which  is on the agenda of the second phase of the constitutional review process.

The Senate Committee Chairman on Information and Media,  Senator Ayogu Eze, told Senate reporters on Friday that  having concluded the first phase of the review of the constitution, the Senate is now prepared to start the second phase which will centre on states creation.

He said the  move to create more states would be an avenue to dispel the widely held view that no civilian administration could create states.

On  conclusion of the first phase of the review of the constitution, Eze said; “I also want to announce that as we come to the conclusion of that first  phase, we are already getting ourselves ready for the next phase of the amendment of the constitution, because there is a need for us to prove it  andthere is also another skeptisism on the part of Nigerians that states cannot be created under civilian dispensation.
