Anew family car from the stable of Tata Motors, Tata Indigo GLX, has been launched in Nigeria by Viramsun Motors, which recently got Tata’s nod to market its range of family cars in Nigeria. Consequently,  Viramsun Motors, a subsidiary of SUN Group, at a recent event in Lagos, presented the vehicles for test-drive to ascertain its fitness and adaptability to Nigerian environment.

The Group Executive Director, SUN Group, Mr. Parimal Vipani, while presenting the vehicle, said Tata Indigo was brought into the country to satisfy the need of middle income earners who wish to acquire brand new vehicles.

According to him, it was the success his company recorded in marketing Nissan cars in Nigeria that prompted Tata Africa Service to appoint Viramsun Motors Limited as sole marketers of Tata family cars in the country.

Vipani said Tata Indigo, built with  a 1.4 litre-engine  would be made available to buyers with “appetising price offer,” among other benefits which he said would include “free servicing for two years.”

Others are “free breakdown recovery for a period of two years within Abuja and Lagos, free registration, free car kits such as foot mats, fire extinguisher, C Caution, and mandatory 100,000 kilometres or three years manufacturer’s warranty.

The new Indigo is a compact car which garnered a lot of praises on the mileage which it delivered.
At the time of launch, it set benchmarks for a small car’s fuel efficiency, with its aerodynamic design and improved engines.

Tata Indigo, described as “a focused effort,” has tried to cater to all the needs of motorists with its frugal oil sipper said to be both “reliable and luxurious.”

Tata Indigo’s  handling on the road presents it as a car that can go very fast in a straight line and with brakes and tyres good enough to bring a driver  to a halt in a hurry.

The power steering in Indigo is one with hydraulic assist, designed to give drivers a luxurious feeling by decreasing effort required to change directions.

Keeping in mind the users comfortability, the Indigo’s front seats have been given additional lumbar and thigh support for more comfort during long distance drives.

The Indigo has longer wheel-base and has 14-inch wheels compared to the 13-inch wheels that are the standard in most of the C-segment cars.

It has also been fitted with a fire-preventing inertia switch, which minimises fuel leakage during an accident.

Other safety features include rear safety belts, collapsible steering wheel, and side-impact beams and crumple zones.
