There is unease in the military following the insistence of the Minister of Defence, Dr. Bello Haliru Mohammed, that postings of Generals in the Armed Forces must get

his clear approval and authorisation before such postings could be effected.

Before now, the Service Chiefs of the Army, Airforce and the Navy were responsible for the postings and appointments of senior officers particularly Generals to the positions of General Officers, Commanding (GOCs) the Divisions and the equivalent of AOCs for NAF and FOCs for the Navy.

Saturday Tribune, however, gathered that certain zones in the country petitioned the minister, complaining that in the past few years, service chiefs had flouted the Federal Character principle of ensuring that the appointment of GOCs, Principal Staff Officers (PSOs) and Commandants of Tri-Service Institutions followed geographical spread.

It was also learnt that some groups from the Northern part of the country were alleging that since the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo boldly decentralised the appointment of service chiefs and the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), which subsequent administrations had copied, the North had greatly been marginalised in such appointments.

The current decision of the minister on the postings of senior officers by the service chiefs was allegedly giving the new generals recently elevated and the military authorities a cause for concern because of the belief that it might affect the commitment and concentration of the senior officers.

The issue of Military is supposed to be handled by the Military themselves. Military forces is very important institutions that does not suppose to be politized. the posting of military officers is purely military and should be left for the military, within the military circle, any deviation from this fact would yield a devastating results. Therefore, introducing another General ahead of the Generals there from a political party will jeopadise the system completely.

The issue of military supposed to be left in the hands of the military themselves. This is a very strong defined professional institutions. It's not supposed to be politicized. Therefore, importing another General without training within the political circle would amount to undue subjugation of military service itself, albeit to the 3 star generasls. Military affairs is for the military, their administrative matters such as postings, training, promotions etc should be militarized, by the military, for the military and within the military. politicizing the military forces service would no doubt jeopadised the military structures and subjugate the armed forces and subject the institution's leasership into political lobby.

Why is it that some people always think this country belong to them, all along they have been giving them chance to do it the way they like just because it favored them, why now that an Igbo man is on top that they want to approve the posting? please anybody who care for this country to advice the minister not to puck noise in another person's position, let him know we are watching his activities, tell him we have the understanding of the good work/job Gen Ihejirika is doing and we are pleased with it, we also know that just as they do not want our President not to succeed even so they do not want Ihejirika to give the president all the , he need to make a good government that the good people of this great country would like. the minister should know he has served his own and he is not in the service any longer he just an adviser and the boss or the president, be careful. Politicians must not meddle in routine military posting

Military posting must be based purely on competence, not geographical representation. This is license to politicization of the military which does not serve the best interest of the Nigerian state.
This is the challenge with our politicians, sometimes I wonder what goes through their brains.
The other day I was thinking why recruitment into the military & Para-Military institutions should follow state quotas.
What exactly is the objective? Do we just want to provide jobs for people or train competent & productive professionals.
These are things that should happen based on merit and anyone found to engage in favouritism or nepotism should be dealt with. But no, we are rather encouraging MILITARY posting to be done on geographical representation. These kind of acts are counter-productive. If I was posted because am from a particular region, my first allegiance is to the person who influenced it and the region where I come from. But we make them swear allegiance to serve the interest of the Federal Republic. 1Tim 2:4 No soldier entangles himself with Civilian affairs. Leave our soldiers to concentrate on military affairs. Is the minister a soldier? does he know who will best fit the objective of the military?

Mr Jonathan it is now government by prayer. Mr Jonathan prayer does not change anything as it only changes the man that prays. I will believe in prayer, the day you pray and a one legged person regains the second leg. So give Nigeria a brake and start leading and ruling from the front.

Where were you "Dr." Mohammed all these years when the Hausa/fulani settlers have dominated the top echelons of the military? You have not seen anything yet. Gone were the days when Fulani settlers dominated the military. Take your fulani settlers back to Tchad republic where you can do whatever you like with the military. I blame the person who put us together for your stupidity.
