Boko Haram: Gov, Northern Politicians Panic Over Possible Arrest

A serving governor and some top Northern politicians are now living under the fear of arrest as security operatives close in on suspected sponsors of Boko Haram. Saturday Tribune gathered that the reports of security agencies consistently linked some prominent figures to the activities of the dreaded group, which had claimed responsibility for a number of bombings in the country lately.

Sources said President Goodluck Jonathan had given a nod for the said leaders to be interrogated, while a security council had been set up to quiz the governor.

It was learnt that upon hints that the agencies had received the green light to prosecute the suspected sponsors of Boko Haram, many of the top politicians are making plans to flee the country, even in the heat of the fuel subsidy removal-induced strike.

The government was also said to be probing some suspicious movements across the Nigerian borders in the North with information indicating that some specific targets of the operation burst Boko Haram had fled the country.

A source said the governor, believed to have links with the group, had got wind of his impending interrogation by operatives, but that the government was being careful not to tamper with his immunity as provided in the 1999 Constitution.

“As a result of the immunity he enjoys, he cannot be directly arrested. But all the details are being assembled and a security committee has been constituted to confront him with such details. Once the evidence is confirmed as incontrovertible, further steps can then be taken to ensure prosecution in line with treason and such charges,” the source said.

It was learnt that the governor had fled to Niger Republic and that some other suspected top politicians are either on their way to Niger or Chad republic.

“The government has decided to bring sanity to this whole issue of insecurity. Some security agencies, who have been on the trail of those concerned in recent times, have reports indicting a number of persons, including government officials.

Other prominent figures, who are linked with the group, are believed to be heading towards Northern borders,” another source said.

It was also gathered that the acclaimed leader of the sect, Abubakar Skekau, had fled the country to Niger, following intense moves to burst him in recent weeks.

It was understood that his outbursts during the week on a cable television, were made from a hideout from that country.

The source stated, “There is an operation aimed at clamping down on the Boko Haram leadership. Security operatives almost burst the leader, Abubakar Shekau and he immediately fled Nigeria. He is believed to be in Niger Republic now where he is coordinating activities of the group. The operatives will not relent in their bid to track him down.”

Northern political leaders and Governors, "tsun tsun da ya jawo ruwa, shi zai duka". You deny Buhari the opportunity to put the country in the right footing, now you are leveled the sponsors of Boko Haram activities. It is your own cup of tea.

This is another reason that Nigeria MUST do away with the so called Immunity Clause in our Constitution. It gives corrupt politician to defraud the government with impunity while in office. As soon as his/her term is over, then it is time to fled the country. Without the clause such corrupt politicians will not have time to perfect his/her way out of Justice. On the office holders connected with the Boko Harram escaping to the Nigerb Republic, what are the security men along the boarder watching to have let them escape? Why were they not put on 24 Hour Surveilance? May God help us in that country and this is what am thinking.

My dear friends who may be in support of Oil Subsidy Removal (OSR), can you help me with the answers to the following questions?
1. I learnt that OPEC reserves 450,000 barrels of oil daily for our domestic consumption while Nigeria exports about 2.4 million barrels of oil daily. Is it true?
2. If this is true, it means that Nigerians have about 67,500,000 litters of petrol and other by-products to use per day since 1barrel can get about 150litters. Does it mean that this number is not enough for Nigerians? Let us still proceed.
3. Again, since we do not have functional refineries, what is the cost of refining this oil in other countries taking note of transportation and labour? I learnt from an oil expert in America that it cannot be more than #40 per litter. Still move forward.
4. Since we have 450,000barrels per day for domestic use, why has our government not be talking of cost of refining these instead of cost of importing refined petrol bought in the international market? No problem yet.
5. Let us assume that it is better for the government to import instead of refining them outside the country. Therefore, the domestic quota stands to be sold in the international market. By my calculation at the rate of 80dollars per barrel, we have: 450,000x80x365 days in a year=13.14Billion dollars. What was the oil subsidy in 2011? About 9Billion dollars, I guess. Therefore, why is our government shouting of Oil Subsidy burden in Nigeria? If 13.14Billion dollars cannot take care of 9Billion dollars expenses, why do we still have government?
6. It is on record that Nigeria exports about 2.4million barrels of crude oil daily. By my calculation also, 2.4million x 80 x 365 = 70.08Billion dollars. If 70Billion dollars is not enough to make a difference in Nigeria, how can 9Billion dollars perform magic in the hands of the same people that control the 70Billion dollars.
7. What do you think that can make a country that earns about 70Billion dollars in a year (from one source) to have an outstanding loan of 41Billion dollars? Is that not corruption? What is our government doing to solve this problem instead of making the little money in the poor masses hands worthless?
8. My dear friends, our government likings our current situation to the telecommunication transformation era in Nigeria. Please, can an increase in the cost of recharge cards or phones affect the cost of goods in the market?
9. In order to bring succour to the jobless youths in Nigeria, Mr President has ordered that 370,000 youths are going to be employed soon if we allow him remove the oil subsidies. Where and what are these youths going to work? The refineries that are being expected to be built in Nigeria, what is the feasibility considering the fact that all our neighbouring countries have better improved power supply than Nigeria? If you were a business man, where will you site your firm? Again, he ordered that our railway system be rehabilitated immediately. If an order was what our railway systems need to function, what has he been doing all these while?
10. Finally, why can’t our government ask Gen. Buhari how he built three refineries in his three years regime while still paying subsidies for our local consumption?

I think Mr. Jonathan is too afraid to do something about the boko Haram issue. I've never seen such a sceary, weak, and fearful president in the world. He was crying that Boko Haram has infiltrated all the arms of his govt. yet he does not have the guts to publicly name them and prosecute them. he knows that Buhari and others are the sponsors but he, Jonathan is too weak to prosecute them. Mr. Jonathan, nothing will happen if you prosecute anyone responsible for this carnage. Be a man and do your job. I am regretting supporting you during your quest to be president. I do not blame myeslf because I never thought that you will be too scared to make tough decisions.

is it wise for our government at this point in time to still be talking about immunity of a terrorist sponsors who has sponsored the killing of many souls and destruction of properties and the immage of our dear country Nigeria. pls we have to wake up and face the reality of life and get all the suspects arrested and keep them while the investigations continues this how it is done in the western world. we should all know that no body is above the law in a situation as this. God please help your people in this country nigeria.

Hit Squads not arrests

Sponsors of Boko Haram should be eliminated by secret hit squads not by arrest and trial. This is what is emboldening these criminals. Nigeria is not matured enough for this high-level practice of democracy. Those who are patriotic enough and love the country should form secret hit squads to go after these people underground like MOSSAD and the CIA are quietly eliminating nuclear scientists in Iran in breach of international law. Government can always deny and mourn the lost lives.

God who has revealed their secrets will also give the security agencies the power to round up these thieves, looters and murderers, wherever they run to.
Nobody would be surprised to read this; that Northern Nigerian top government officials and politicians are indeed the veritable sponsors of boko haram. Everybody knew it.
Also, no surprises that these muslim criminals are now taking refuge in their islamic brother-nations bordering Nigerian northern borders.
Of course, Arab muslim countries would support and shelter islamic terrorists against Nigeria because they have all benefited from the huge amounts stolen from Nigeria by the Northern elites whose real countries of origin are these neighbouring islamic countries and not Nigeria.
These Northern elites and most muslims in the Northern states of Nigeria are not Nigerians at all so they do not care about Nigeria's present or future. Their own is to suck Nigeria dry , to her last drop of blood
The agenda of these enemies of Nigeria is , mainly, to grab power and continue to control and possess the Treasury of the Federal Government of Nigeria and of all the Northern states of Nigeria, as they have done for many years in the past; and if they can no more succeed to do so , to destroy Nigeria completely and kill as many bona fide Nigerians as they can.
