Baba Suwe Yet To Pooh Suspected Drug
This followed his inability to start excreting the substance which the agency detected in his stomach through the screening machine installed at the airport for the screening of international passengers travelling out of the country.
Also, the NDLEA has invited its personal doctor to carry out a medical examination on him for the purpose of knowing the true state of things with him.
Baba Suwe who has remained in the custody of the NDLEA for four days over allegation of drug trafficking may stay longer than expected until he starts excreting the substance in his stomach.
The NDLEA on Friday issued a statement through its media personnel, Mitchelle Ofoyeju, where the NDLEA airport commander, Alhaji Hamza Umar, confirmed the arrest of the ace actor.
Hamza actually confirmed that Baba Suwe was actually travelling to Paris, France to act as a compere for the naming ceremony of his friend’s daughter when he was arrested at the Lagos airport.
According to Hamza, “there is reasonable ground for suspicion and the actor is currently under observation. He is fine and had been eating but has not excreted.”
The statement issued by the agency also partly stated: “Meanwhile, the actor will still be under observation. The Agency’s doctor has also been invited to examine him. This, according to the NDLEA, is crucial to ascertain the true position. The actor is fine and cooperating with narcotic investigators. Further up-date on the matter shall be made known to the general public.“
NDLEA Airport commander, however, said Baba Suwe was in safe custody.
Saturday Tribune has, however, gathered that contrary to fears being raised by the public that if the substance detected in Baba Suwe’s stomach remains longer it may burst and kill him, the substance may stay for close to two weeks without posing any danger.
This according to sources in the anti-narcotic agency, depends on the condition that the substance remains intact.
According to the source, those who died in the process were those who the substance burst in their belly.
Some drug suspects arrested earlier had spent between one week and two weeks before excreting the substance they ingested without dying.
However, some drug suspects who were not very lucky have given up the ghost when the substance they swallowed ruptured and burst in their stomach.
The NDLEA caught Baba Suwe on Wednesday night at 10.00 p.m. on his way to board an Air France flight to Paris.
As of the time of filing this report, Baba Suwe has not excreted the drugs but investigation into the case is ongoing according to the NDLEA
Meanwhile, contrary to the reports that a staff of Air France has been arrested in connection to the development, the spokesperson of the NDLEA said there was no staff of the airline arrested in connection with Baba Suwe’s matter.
This was corroborated by a staff of the airline who spoke under condition of anonymity.
Meanwhile, some notable Nollywood members have reacted to the arrest of Omidina.
Mr. Jide Kosoko, said, “up till now we don’t know the situation. I can’t imagine Baba Suwe doing anything like that. This is nothing but madness and I hope it is not true.”
Also Mr. Dele Odule, said, “I didn’t like it when I heard the story. I don’t want to pass any comment now because it hasn’t been confirmed. Let us wait for confirmation then we will know what to say.”
