In this Interview with Matthew Asabor, Nollywood actress, Kemi Bakare reveals how she came into Nollywood and her assessment of the industry. Excerpts:

Who is Kemi Bakare?
Adekemi Bakare a.k.a skerry, is from Osun State, Nigeria.

I attended Subola Memorial Primary school, Ibadan and then proceeded to St Annes School before I later crossed over to Wesley College of Science where I sat for my SSCE. I gained admission to the Osun State Polytechnic, Esa Oke where I studied Electrical-Electronics and I also obtained a degree in Electrical-Electronics at the University of Ibadan,Oyo State.

Your nickname Skerry, what does it mean?
It's an lrish name and it means solid or hard.I was given that name in my secondary school days because I was sociable, brilliant and tough.

How did you come into the movie industry?
After my degree, I left for the United States and it was from there I  picked interest in acting.

Why did you relocate to Nigeria?
I joined Nollywood in 2008 when I came back into the country fully to pursue my acting career,  I started with Nias production through a  senior in secondary school, Ayo Adesanya. I then left to stand on my own to start Laskerry production in 2001.

Can you tell us about some of your works?
I've done a lot. They include Ajaga, Oju Olodumare, Yegi Yegi, Agbada Ita, Oju Oro, Osumare and Super Mummy series.

Of your productions, Eye Abami and Paramole, which of them brought you fame?
Eye Abami on the stable of Laskerry production.

How do you view the movie industry?
What I will say is that the Nigerian movie industry is not there yet because the attitude of some producers are not encouraging and professionalism is lacking in the industry.

Your major achievement?
For now, none.

What's your take on the issue of copyright?
It is a big problem, I'm in the industry not mainly for money but passion, if not, I would have left after I  suffered a huge loss in my last production.

Your major challenge?
Marketing, because most of the marketers are not honest.

Are you married?
Yes, with two children.

Apart from acting,what other things do you do?
I’m a singer and beautician.

What is that thing you cannot do without?
My deodorant.

Your choice of clothes?
It depends on my mood.

How have you been combining your home and work?
My husband has been very supportive.

In the next five years where do you see yourself?
I will be off the hook, winning awards upon awards.

Your mentors?
Joke Silva, Bukky Ajayi and Ayo Adesanya, they look real while acting and acting is an in-built thing in them.

Your  most memorable day?
My wedding day.

Your slogan?
It is not finished until it is finished.

Your last word for the movie industry?
We should endeavour to make researches because most of our stories are full of flaws and actors should put life and reality to whatever roles they are given.

Your advice to upcoming artistes?
They should pray hard and believe their stardom does not lie in the hand of any man.
