It has been realised that purpose-driven education is required to intimate a child with why he or she  goes to school. The development will go a long way  in building a sound learning spirit that will boost the innate talent and skill acquisition process in a child.

It is of note that the empirical study of Nigerian youths as regards their perception about education shows that many of them seem not to understand their vision or mission in school which determines their failure or success in their chosen career. Education is therefore considered as a failure or success, when the recipients do not appreciate the value, or when it cannot transform the recipients into useful citizen in the society.

Notwithstanding, there are some schools in the country whose vision and mission  in education sector are purpose-driven, to give a child  total education in all ramifications; morally, academically, skilfully and spiritually.

Recently, Rising Stars had a chat with the  Head Girl of Christ Ambassadors International College, Ibadan, Miss Gbemisola Deborah Akinsipe who  has authored a novel entitled  Family Again. Aside the laudable achievement on book publishing  at age 13, she is a microsoft certified professional, the youngest person in Africa to achieve that feat at age 12.

More so, Gbemisola has obtained Oracle Certified Professional certificate, a computer data based programme. Meanwhile,  she had won many awards for her school within her six years of joining the college.

Gbemisola, while sharing her academic experience with Rising Stars said; “My book which I entitled  ‘Family Again’, is a novel dedicated to female teenagers and their mothers. The book showcased the problems of teenage pregnancies in present times and how it could be controlled. One of the solutions I proffered in the book was the establishment of good relationship between mothers and their teenage daughters.

“I conceived the idea between my JSIII and SS1 through the  influence of many true life stories I heard and read about female teenagers’ experiences.  All these exposures prompted me to write the book and from my experience,  it only takes passion, dedication  and love for writing to author  a book with  many challenges that can easily discourage young authors, but with persistence, one can overcome all the challenges associated with book writing.

“For instance, it took me some years to get myself ready to write the book in terms of research on the subject matter, but I spent three days to write the 192 page book for further editing,” she said.

Speaking about her academic achievements, she admitted that  her school had contributed a lot to her career. According to her, the kind of education she is receiving in the college, in terms  of discipline, moral academic, had influenced the achievement she had recorded over the years.

‘’ Moreover, the Proprietress of the  college, Evangelist (Mrs) Lillian Bademosi, is a role model, while the life of teachers and other staff members of the school are  worthy of emulation; they are pacesetters and God- fearing people. The school is as well producing self-sufficient future leaders for the country,” she stated.

Gbemisola, a science student, may likely  combine her parents’ professions as course of her study in  the university later in the year.  My mother studied Chemistry, while my father read  Mechanical Engineering,  meanwhile, I am  proposing to study Chemical  Engineering,” she stated.

Talking about education development,  she advised Nigerian government and education policy makers in the country to provide the education that could make youngsters discover their potentials. According to her, Nigerian universities can be made better,  if the government would put in  place all the necessary teaching and research facilities with incentives that could boost learning and academic stability. “I want  the  world  academic  standard to be  restored in the Nigerian universities because Nigeria has many youngsters who need good education to develop their talents.

“Moreover, there must be a conducive learning environment  to build young authors,” she added. Gbemisola, one of the  youngest public speakers  in the country, expressed  her appreciation to the publisher of her book, Spectrum  Books limited, for its contributions towards the successful publication of the book. According to her, she  is working on another book to be published soon.

Commending Gbemisola on her achievements, the school administrator, Mrs Bola Osagie, described her as a brilliant and intelligent student among others in the school. According to her, the college has what it takes to groom students to  discover their talents. “We offer total education to produce world leaders of integrity and God-fearing people,” she said.
