The Director General of the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC), Chief Olusegun Runsewe, has said  that the World Cup taking place in Africa  will help broaden the market for tourism which has   immense potential to create jobs, directly and indirectly. Just as he reiterated  the Nigeria's support for the success of the competition taking place in

South Africa.

He  said this   at the opening of ITB travel fair in  Berlin, Germany during a visit by the South Africa Tourism boss, Ms. Thandiwe  January-Mclean to the Nigeria pavilion.

‘Let me once again say that Nigeria is totally supporting and working with South Africa for the success of this World Cup, because  we strongly believe  that if South Africa succeed , Africa has succeeded too."

While calling for the support of other African countries to make the hosting successful, Chief Runsewe told the South Africa Tourism boss that  Nigeria was going to have a village  in South Africa while the competition lasts.

"At the Nigerian Village, we are going to have  Nigeria culture, cuisine, music  and dances on display. And during the event, Nigerians and other foreign nationals will have the opportunity to witness Nigerian’s culture and entertainment.

He said that popular Nigerian  movie stars would  be at hand to entertain guests visiting the village.

Runsewe told January-Mclean that the corporation will soon be in South Africa to drum up support for the World Cup the Nigeria way.

Also,  January-Mclean, said that South Africa appreciated the support of  African countries for the World Cup and that they were looking forward to having  fellow Africans in the country for the competition.

“It is very important for South Africa, particularly because we have always said this is an African World Cup. So, without the Africans supporting us, the hosting will not be completed. However, generally, Africans have been very supportive  of the whole process .”
