The President,Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), Mr John Jegede, had commended the institute’s achievements at the grassroots.

The president was represented by the institute’s Honorary Treasurer, Mr Ade Adedayo, at the joint district meeting hosted by Ikeja District at Airport Hotel, Lagos.

He said the joint society’s achievements over the years was to ensure that the activities of the institute were replicated at the grassroots were laudable.

The president commended the effort of the leadership for their perseverance and doggedness in actualising the cardinal aims and objective of the institute.

Jegede said the existence of the Districts Societies became necessary to provide a platform for members within their area to have a sense of belonging and also propagate the ideas of the noble institute.

“It is my expectation that the leadership of these districts would not rest on their oars in ensuring that the purpose of their creation are sustained with all pride and dignity”.

He advised the executives of the districts to look out for the Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APBN) which is the umbrella of all professional bodies in the country.

The tax boss said they were expected to work in partnership with stakeholders in all areas to ensure fulfillment of the statutory responsibility in achieving sustainable growth of the economy.

He urged the members to strive to use their skills to simplify the tax compliance process, properly advise tax payers on compliance requirements and provide insight and help to tax authorities.

The president admonished the members to desist from unhealthy rivalry and bickering which is capable of causing disaffection and hamper the bid in achieving the set goals and objectives.

“Follow the lofty objectives of the districts society diligently and discharge your duties with integrity and patriotism at all times to tax authorities and other tax stakeholders,” he said.
