THE tussle between the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and the National Sports Commission (NSC), took a different dimension on Thursday, as the latter disclosed its plans to set up a National Commonwealth Games Committee to take charge of the events and federations participating in the Commonwealth Games.

Director-General of NSC, Chief Patrick Ekeji disclosed this in Abuja, adding that it was clear that some sports are supposed to be adequately taken care of during the preparations for the Commonwealth Games.

The ex-international noted that setting up the national CWG committee would in no little means assist the country in her preparations for Commonwealth Games saying it was different from the Olympics.

He maintained that other member nations of the CWG have similar committees in place towards adequate preparations.

Ekeji noted that the NSC took a bold step in order to ensure that the country does not only go the CWG for mere participation but to compete for medals.

Ekeji who lamented the inability of the NOC to hold fresh elections after 24 months maintained that “when the new committee is inaugurated, it will take charge of the country’s preparations for the Commonwealth Games”.

He did not however, disclose whether the Delhi Commonwealth Games which holds in October will be part of the committee's assignment.
