Drogba is Africa’s best
IVORIEN international, Didier Drogba was on Thursday at the State House Banquet Hall, Accra, Ghana, crowned the 2009 African Footballer of the Year for the second time in his career.
He first won the 2006 award incidentally held in the former Gold Coast in 2007.
The Chelsea hitman beat three-time winner of the award, Camerounian Samuel Eto'O Fils to the award, as well as home boy, Michael Essien.
The victory of the DD the warrior came to many soccer fans as a surprise given the exploits of Eto'O with Barcelona in 2009 season, just as some believed it was well deserved.
Drogba, was instrumental to the semi-final finish of Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League last season.
He also led the Blues to win the FA Cup banging in goals when it mattered most, while his scoring prowess also helped Chelsea to finish third on the English Premiership table last season.
