The Federal Government has promised to use the management of Space Science and Technology to solve the various economic problems of poverty, employment and in wealth creation, disaster management and security.

The Minister of Science and Technology, Professor Mohammed Ka'oje Abubakar, stated this on Thursday while declaring open the first African Regional Centre for Space Science and Technology Education in English (ARCSSTTE-E) regional conference and alumni inauguration at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State.

Abubakar, who noted that Africa was fast rising up to the challenges of applying space science and technology to the enhancement of socio-economic development of the continent, assured the people that all would be well with the approach to be introduced.

The minister, however, called on other African countries to synergise their efforts towards achieving the goal.

Speaking on the theme, “Engendering Pragmatic Development of Space Science and Technology in Africa: Prospects and Challenges," the conference attempted to take a cursory look at the future of space science technology in Nigeria and Africa in general.

The minister, who was represented by the Director-General, Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology, Dr Folorunso Ighodalo, said the ministry gave topmost priority to the funding of Space Science Technology in the country.
