New CEOs assume duties in Zenith, UBA, Skye Bank today

Share

History is being made today in the banking sector, following the assumption of duties of Godwin Emefiele, Philip Oduoza and Kehinde Durosinmi-Etti as new chief executive officers of Zenith Bank, UBA and the Skye Bank respectively.

This follows the exit of Jim Ovia, Tony Elumelu and Sola Akinfemiwa, from the respective banks in compliance with last year’s directive by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) limiting the tenure of bank CEOs to 10 years.

The three of them had been at the helm of affairs of their institutions for more than 10 years each.

Jim Ovia was the founding chief executive of Zenith Bank; Tony Elumelu had been the chief executive at both Standard Trust Bank since inception before its merger with UBA in 2005, while Sola Akinfemiwa was also the CEO of  Prudent Bank that merged with other bank to form Skye Bank, also in 2005.
