Benue State government has accused the Benue State University chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) of playing politics with the future of students of the institution.

Governor Gabriel Suswam made the remark on Sunday at Zaki-Biam, Ukum Local Government Area of the state during a thanksgiving service organised for him by St. Anthony Catholic Church.

Suswam, who is irked by the lecturers’ refusal to shift ground despite appeals from his administration and other stakeholders and their continued shutting students out of lecture halls, maintained that they were playing politics with the future of the students.

“They are merely playing politics with the future of our children. Their continued strike is not helping the issue. We have accepted to pay them. So why are they still on strike?” he queried.

The Benue State University lecturers, the Nigerian Tribune gathered, decided to down tools for over three months now to demand for the full implementation of the Federal Government agreement on new salary structure for university lecturers by the institution.
