Some ex-militants, fresh from the two weeks rehabilitation training at Obubra, on Wednesday, stormed the Cross River state Governor’s Office, on Leopard Town road  to protest the non-payment of their salary for two months.

Members of the disbanded Bakassi Freedom Fighters, who dominated the protest were at the seat of power to also record their displeasure over the non-release of the N1million allowance approved for them by the Cross River State government. This amount is for only former militants of Cross River State extraction.

The presence of the erstwhile warlords at the Governor’s Office made the combined team of policemen and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to lock the main entrance to the office, keeping away all visitors.

This caused a scene at the gate as guests, who were already in were barred from going out.

It took the most senior police officer at the gate sometime to convince them to leave as the repentant militants insisted on seeing the governor, Senator Liyel Imoke, to make known their plight, since graduating from the training 12 days ago.

The police officer took them to a place opposite the office to listen to their grievances.

Midway into the discussion with the police, the Special Adviser to the Cross River State government on security, Mr. Bassey Okim arrived. Leader of the protesting team, Livinus Awudu, told him that they were at the office to complain
