University lecturer, Professor Tony Afejuku, has cast doubt on the ability of the new chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega to organise credible elections in Nigeria given the structure of the commission.

The professor of English at the University of Benin said Jega, a former president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), succeeded in ASUU because of what he described as “the well heeled structure of ASUU.”

Afejuku spoke as guest lecturer at a public lecture entitled, The Nigerian Media and the Distillation of Credible Elections in a Ramshackle Electoral Brewery, organised by the Edo state Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) as part of its contributions to the strengthening of the nation’s democracy, on Wednesday, in Benin City.
