Operators of illegal hotels and brothels in Lagos are in for tough time as the state governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) signed into law, a bill regulating the operation of hotels and brothels, on Monday.

With this law, operators who run hotels and brothels without obtaining licence from the state government risk a fine ranging from N100, 000 to N500, 000 or a two-year jail term as against N100 to N200 fine provided as punishment for violators of the law.

Fashola said that tourism was fast becoming a major contributor to the economy of the nation and that Lagos State government would have to diversify its economy now into the area of tourism and hospitality.

He stated that the government would leave no stone unturned to provide basic infrastructure to promote tourism and hospitality in the state.

According to him, the government has embarked on various projects to promote hospitality industry, adding that the Lagos-Badagry expressway expansion and the Lekki/Epe concession and other network of roads were parts of the efforts to provide the right environment to boost tourism and hospitality.
