Protesting retirees of the Edo territory of  the Nigeria Postal Services (NIPOST), on Monday, paralysed commercial activities at two NIPOST offices located in Benin City, Edo State capital.

The retirees, numbering over 100, stormed the offices on Monday morning and chased out the workers who had already resumed for duty, thus preventing any of the NIPOST staffer from gaining entrance into the buildings.

At NIPOST office located on Airport Road in the state capital, the retirees, who were of the 2005/2006 batch, sat in front of the building with placards.

It was a similar activity at the NIPOST office located on Akpakpava Street, also in Benin City, where business centres operating within the premises were also shut down.

The chairman of the Edo NIPOST territory retirees, Mr Joseph Ekunwe, said they were protesting to register their grievances over the non-payment of their over 30-month pension benefits.

Ekunwe said the only way for them to call attention to their plights was to protest and for NIPOST management to know that they were hungry.

The protesters, at the state Government House, were addressed by the Deputy Secretary to the State Government, Mr John Opule, who told them that the state government would look into their request.
