OSUN State governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, on Tuesday, restated the call for the creation of state police, saying that it will help improve security in Nigeria.

Aregbesola said this while signing the Security Trust Fund bill into law, adding that the police command structure was too centralised.

He averred that the appellation given to state governors as chief security officers of their various states was a mere expression, because no police commissioner would take instruction from any governor.

Aregbesola lamented that when there was insecurity, governors were blamed, although they did not control the police.

“Those who say Nigeria is not ripe for state police are not sincere. I don’t know where they get their own reasoning from. 

“Even school campuses have their own police, to ensure criminal activities are curbed in their institutions. If there is any violation of rights, the judiciary is there to handle it and so the argument that state police will lead to abuse of rights cannot be sustained.

“My administration, being a responsive and responsible one, is putting the issue of security of our dear state on the front burner, hence, we are developing a number of strategies to evolve almost full proof of security for the State of Osun,” he said.

The governor further stated that insecurity was no respecter of anybody, adding that prevention of crimes should be a collective enterprise among the citizens of the state.

He assured that the government would work with federal departments and agencies, neighbou-ring states and local governments to imple-ment comprehensive plan to protect Osun State and its citizens.

Aregbesola Stresses Neeed for State Police

That would, at least,help foster his(Aregbesola)divisionism agenda. It will help him go haywire,more than ever, against the opposition. State police,if allowed will enable him fully execute his Cuba Agenda. May be we should ask the governor on how well he has managed the judiciary that he mentioned as example in his state,how well has he managed the civil service of Osun and the students of tertiary institution in the state.Even his yeye and fraudulent OYES Scheme which many of the so called cadets have abandoned
for different reasons. How well has he managed himself in the public eye that he is now asking to be given a whole police organisation to manage. For his information,the control and management of sensitive organisations like the police transcends beyond a blind disillusioned leader and confectionist like Mr Rauf. Managing a police organisation requires utmost discipline,sincerity,commitment,focus and above all wisdom and all these our governor does not seem to be adequately endowed.
