Retiring Chief Judge (CJ) of Kwara State, Honourable Justice Raliat Elelu-Habeeb, has described Judicial Staff Union (JUSUN), as it is currently constituted in the state, as a big clog in the wheel of progress.

It is recalled that the association of judicial staff in the state wrote a petition against her at the National Judicial Council (NJC) three years ago before the state government eventually removed her as CJ on allegation of misconduct, after which she was reinstated by the Supreme Court in March this year.

Speaking at the 2012/2013 legal year and the statutory retirement of the CJ in Ilorin, Justice Elelu-Habeeb said the petition was subsequently thrown out by the NJC after she responded to the petition with valid documents.

“During the period of two, three years back, the press in Kwara State constantly requested for my comments on the events then in the judiciary. Conscious of my status as a serving judicial officer, I refused to make any statement and I knew fully well that silence is golden and that no matter how long the period, truth cannot be stampeded upon, it would come out in its colour,” she said.
