Diversification of economy at all levels in the country has been identified as the antidote to incessant infractions and other criminal vices experienced in Nigeria in recent times.

Managing Director (MD) of Culgreen International Limited, Mr Frank Etuk, stated this on Sunday, while addressing newsmen in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on plans towards the 2012 Ibiono Ibom New yam Festival slated for September 7 till 12.

According to him, such diversification would engage the youth gainfully and would go a long way in reducing the rate of insecurity across the country.

The festival, according to him, was in collaboration with the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Culture and Tourism, which he said was aimed at taming the tide of restiveness in his council area, Ibiono Ibom, the state and the country at large, noting that the end result would be of benefit to all.

The six-day event, according to him, would attract national, local and international participation, stressing that it would enhance sustainable socio-cultural and economic development of the state.

“The essence of this project is to harness available resources towards the promotion of culture and tourism for sustainable economic development and empowerment for the area and the state in general.

“The scope of this year’s event shall be expanded to attract local,national and international participation. Accordingly, a website www.culgreene.org has been opened for this event and is already accessed globally,” he said.

He stated that the decision to expand the scope of the yearly celebration was occasioned by a tour of Adamawa State, which the organisers undertook in 2010 with the European Union (EU) executives, which exposed them to many tourism sites in the council area.
