PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has issued a directive to the leadership of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-West to ensure that the party wins back the zone in the 2015 general election.

The leadership of the PDP was handed the task of wining back the zone currently under the control of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and the Labour Party (LP).

To achieve this, Nigerian Tribune gathered that President Jonathan had directed his aides in the presidency to fashion out strategy that would assist the PDP to win back the zone.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr Doyin Okupe, met with publicity secretries of the PDP in the South-West states in Abuja last week, where he handed down the directive to them.

Okupe was said to have told them that the battle to regain the South-West would commence with the media.

To further actualise the plot, the sources disclosed that a fund raising committee to be headed by the Minister of State for Defence, Mrs Olusola Obada, would be inaugurated this week.

Also, sources at the national secretariat of the party disclosed that the October 20 gubernatorial election in Ondo State is already giving the leadership of the party concern amid fear that PDP might not be able to oust the incumbent governor, Dr Segun Mimiko.

President Jonathan, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Inter-Party Affairs, Senator Ben Obi, at a civic reception organised by the Osun State PDP for the national secretary of the party and former governor of the state, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, also assured that the PDP would win back the zone.

Meanwhile, The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), at the weekend, reiterated the call for the party to take over government in the South-West at the next election.

This was stated at a reception organised for members of the party from Osun State, that got appointment at the national level, including the national secretary of the party, Mr Olagunsoye Oyinlola; Managing Director of Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Mr Jide Adeniji and the Federal Commissioner, National Population Commission, Akogun Lere Oyewunmi, held in Osogbo.

The event, which was attended by the national leadership of the party, including President Goodluck Jonathan, represented by Senator Ben Obi; Ahmed Brula; former chairman of board of trustees of the party, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, represented by his wife Mrs Bola Obasanjo, the national chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, represented by Alhaji Abubakar Mustapha, Kwara State governor, Alhaji Abdulfattah Ahmed, Akwa Ibom State governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Nmana Nmana, and the national women leader, Dr kema Chikwe.

PDP SHOULD FORGET THIS DAY DREAMING

It is mere day dreaming for the PDP to think of winning back the Southwest come 2015. For twelve years that the party held sway in the zone the people were poorer for it,infrastructural decay rose while the economy of the zone nose dived. The people of the zone now know who their true leaders are and this will reflect in their choices during the coming gubernatorial elections in each of the states comprising the zone. That the PDP has failed the people ,was shown clearly in the recently concluded governorship election in Edo State where Mr.Fix it could not even fix it in his own local government area. Performance rather than unnecessary grandstandig will determine who occupies the driver's seat in each of the States come next elections. I must warn ,however,that governors who sack workers arbitrarily,using criteria not known to service rules should be packing their bags to quit government house.

PDP, THE DREAMER

@ Dr. Biodun ... i quite agree with you that the PDP is day dreaming. The party had tried and failed woefully. No time to repeat. It is a pointer to all Governors/parties ruling the S/West that the only language we understand is performance - no time for sentiments any longer.

Where i slightly disagree with you is your last paragraph. To restructure a State require drastic actions, including sacking/replacement of personnel. It's obvious that you cant get different result with the same structure. I am totally in support of sacking of staff as long as it's not biased or politically motivated. Please visit the Lagos State Secretariat. You will think you are in a private sector setting. This is the type of level every State should be aspiring to attain - not where government work is taken as a part time business.

These PDP people have no shame

Thanks Owolabi. The question this good-for-nothing party should be asked is: The states and the centres they are currently controlling, what do they do with it? What were the PDP achievements when they held sway in the zone before they were unceremoniously booted out. These people have no shame. We shall see all and watch their plans. They have forgotten that the people of the zone now know better. They still can't believe that their godfather who got them to power through the back door has been relegated to nothing even in his ward in the last elections. Never again shall PDP rule us again. Let them go and rule Tribune their newspaper.

its quite unfortunate for the PDP to be dreaming of capture south west come 2015 after they had set the region backward for good 8 years of unfufil electioneering promises with collapsed infrastructure, south west is better of in opposition they should concentrate in the federal where looting, corruption, bunckering and disregard for the rule of law is their other of the day, surely God will catch up on them one day
