2015: Recapture S/West, Jonathan tells PDP •PDP reiterates readiness to take over S/West

PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has issued a directive to the leadership of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-West to ensure that the party wins back the zone in the 2015 general election.

The leadership of the PDP was handed the task of wining back the zone currently under the control of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and the Labour Party (LP).

To achieve this, Nigerian Tribune gathered that President Jonathan had directed his aides in the presidency to fashion out strategy that would assist the PDP to win back the zone.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr Doyin Okupe, met with publicity secretries of the PDP in the South-West states in Abuja last week, where he handed down the directive to them.

Okupe was said to have told them that the battle to regain the South-West would commence with the media.

To further actualise the plot, the sources disclosed that a fund raising committee to be headed by the Minister of State for Defence, Mrs Olusola Obada, would be inaugurated this week.

Also, sources at the national secretariat of the party disclosed that the October 20 gubernatorial election in Ondo State is already giving the leadership of the party concern amid fear that PDP might not be able to oust the incumbent governor, Dr Segun Mimiko.

President Jonathan, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Inter-Party Affairs, Senator Ben Obi, at a civic reception organised by the Osun State PDP for the national secretary of the party and former governor of the state, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, also assured that the PDP would win back the zone.

Meanwhile, The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), at the weekend, reiterated the call for the party to take over government in the South-West at the next election.

This was stated at a reception organised for members of the party from Osun State, that got appointment at the national level, including the national secretary of the party, Mr Olagunsoye Oyinlola; Managing Director of Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Mr Jide Adeniji and the Federal Commissioner, National Population Commission, Akogun Lere Oyewunmi, held in Osogbo.

The event, which was attended by the national leadership of the party, including President Goodluck Jonathan, represented by Senator Ben Obi; Ahmed Brula; former chairman of board of trustees of the party, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, represented by his wife Mrs Bola Obasanjo, the national chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, represented by Alhaji Abubakar Mustapha, Kwara State governor, Alhaji Abdulfattah Ahmed, Akwa Ibom State governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Nmana Nmana, and the national women leader, Dr kema Chikwe.
