The Joint Task Force (JTF) on Operation Restore Order in Maiduguri, Borno State, has warned residents, especially market women, against what it termed non-cooperating attitude in the fight against terrorism in the state.

A statement from the office of the JTF spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Sagir Musa, said “a day after it conducted a search operation in Monday Market and recovered some arms and ammunition, some members of the Boko Haram sect went to the market and forced the marketers to pay compensation for the arms and ammunition recovered by the JTF.

According to the statement, a similar operation was conducted in Gamboru Market, during which large quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered by the task force.

“As a result, some Boko Haram men made marketers to compensate them for the weapons and arms recovered by the JTF to which the market operators obliged without reporting to the task force,” the statement read.

JTF, therefore, warns individuals or group to desist from such acts, adding that both the giver and receiver of such amount of money would be treated as terrorists.

Meanwhile, following the bomb blasts in Maiduguri, on Tuesday, residents of the affected area and hospital sources said, contrary to the confirmation of the JTF that only one person was killed in the blast; more than 15 corpses were deposited at the Specialist Hospital, while several others were receiving treatment.

The victims, it was gathered, died after they were hit by stray bullets.
