THE Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, has warned that any officer or men in the force caught in any form of bribery and corruption will be decisively dealt with.

Abubakar, who sounded this warning on Wednesday, during the launch of 40 operational patrol vehicles in Abuja, said the essence of removal of roadblocks along the highway was to fight corruption in the force.

The police boss was optimistic that the operational patrol vehicles would be used for the patrol of the highways, while they would also ensure crime and criminality were stamped out of the highways.

“I want to use this opportunity to warn officers that will be deployed for this exercise to shun all forms of corruption and unethical conducts and ensure that their firearms are used strictly in accordance with the police rules of engagement.

“As servants of the people, you must accord maximum respect to the fundamental rights of the citizens at all times,” Abubakar said.

The police boss, while addressing officers and men of the force during the ceremony, also warned against any form of misuse of the vehicles, stressing that they must be used for the purposes for which they were deployed.

While appealing for the cooperation, support and understanding of the public in the war against crime and criminality, Abubakar assured Nigerians that more vehicles would be deployed to the highways immediately.

Finally, the Federal government is doing something about this crisis. The police should hunt these armed robbers down from highway to the city streets. I said it before and I am saying it now that the people of Nigeria should declare war on these armed robbers and kidnappers so as to restore dignity to our nation and its citizens. By the time people go from house to house, street by street, town after town, and village after village, all these robbers and kidnappers can be wiped out.
