Former President Shagari stresses importance of ICT

Former president Shehu Shagari, has stressed the importance of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT)  to the educational development of Nigeria as a nation as well as to the current drive towards globalisation.

Shagari, who stated this on Tuesday, in a message during a two- week intensive training for members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sokoto State Council, on computer literacy, organised by the Sokoto Education Development Trust Fund (SEDTF) held at Sama road in Sokoto, said it was in view of the importance of ICT that the fund was training state indigenes computer courses at the level of certificate and diploma programmes.

The former president, who is also the chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT) of SEDTF, further stated that the fund was also training male and female youths on vocational training with a view to making them self reliant in the society.

Represented by Senator Muktar Abdulkarim, the first elected president added that the fund was also assisting state indigenes studying primary education  course and early child care at the Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, with a N5,000 allowance annually.
