SHOP owners at Idi-Iroko, Olomoyoyo, New Garage area in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Wednesday morning, woke up to see their fortunes went up in flame, in an inferno that razed more than four shops.

The cause of the inferno, which began around 4.30 a.m, the Nigerian Tribune gathered, could not be ascertained at the time of filing this report, but sources, however, hinted that it was not as a result of electrical fault.

One of the residents, who pleaded anonymity, told the Nigerian Tribune that “people noticed that smoke was coming from some shops.

The only thing we could do was to cry for help and probably call on fire brigade. That was the only help anybody could render at that time of the day.

“We also learnt that some people helped contacted officers of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) to probably switch off the light, but it was evident that the fire was not as a result of electric surge There had been light from PHCN long before we noticed the fire outbreak, so the fire could not have been as a result of surge,” the source said.

When the Nigerian Tribune visited the Orita police station to confirm the development, the officer in charge declined to comment.
