Two-time governor of defunct Bendel State, Dr Samuel Ogbemudia, has said he always threw his support behind Governor Adams Oshiomhole despite their party differences because, according to him, the state was greater than anybody.

Dr Ogbemudia, in a letter to congratulate Governor Oshiomhole on his victory at the July 14 gubernatorial election in the state, described the governor as “winner by any or all standards.”

According to him, “the July 14, 2012 gubernatorial election in Edo State has come and gone leaving behind tremendous lessons. You are the winner by any or all standards and I join millions of Nigerians and in particular Edo people in congratulating you, on behalf of my family and myself.

“I have always maintained, in my dealings with you, that the state is greater than an individual or political party. That was why I put partisan differences aside whenever the interest of the state is an issue. Thus, I have never hesitated to congratulate you and to lend my support in order that you may succeed in the greater interest of our dear state, especially now that you have declared ‘No victor, No loser.’

“My stand has often been based on my experience as a former public servant who had the privilege to be exposed to the inner intricacies of statecraft including the awesome responsibility of a state governor.”

Anti-Party activities?

Logical and sound but will Ogbemudia blame anyone if his party decides to kick him out for anti-party activities? Here he is a member of the Board of Trustees of his party claiming he supported the candidate of the opposing party. This terrible even though I do not shed any tears for the PDP.

I think this man was honest and he did the right thing. he should be emulated, infact he should be commended for such a stand. Election has come and gone and the state must be moved to the next level. Those who are accusing this man are enemy of the state. He is a great sportman and those that have problem with the congratulatory statement should go to court because that is where failures go to. Election has been won, congatiulation follows irrespective of party interest. Hurrah Comrade Governor. If anybody have problem with that please relocate afterall Nigeria is a big country for us all to live in.
