PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan, on Sunday, stressed the need for unity among Nigerians without which he said peace and progress could elude the country.

Speaking when Vice President Namadi Sambo led Muslim community in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to pay him sallah homage at his residence in the State House Abuja, the president pointed out that the sallah period served as an opportunity not just for Muslims but all Nigerians to reflect on the nature of existence and the situation of the nation.

He said: “There must be unity and peace. And for us to progress, we must unite. For us to progress, there must be peace.”

Jonathan maintained that the nation would overcome the current challenges through the power of prayers, adding that he, the vice-president and all members of his government were totally committed to the transformation process of the country.

In his remarks earlier, Vice President Sambo noted the steps that President Jonathan had taken to ensure the progress of the country and prayed for good health and wisdom for the president to be able to continue to transform the country.

He informed the president that during his recent trip to the lesser hajj in Saudi Arabia, all the Nigerians he met in the Holy Land were united in their prayers for the president as well as the peace and stability of the country.

“We will continue to support you Mr President to deliver the transformation agenda. We assure you of our loyalty and we pray that this country will be transformed under your leadership,” he said.

Among prominent persons present at the sallah homage to the President were the Head of Service of the Federation, Alhaji Bello Isa; the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Bamanga Tukur; Senator Philip Aduda; FCT Minister, Sen Bala Mohammed, Minister of Police Affairs, Caleb Olubolade.

Others were Ministers of State for Finance, Alhaji Yerima Ngama, FCT, Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide, Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Mohammed Dikko Umar, Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Abubakar, former Speaker of House of Representatives, Hon. Ghali Na'Abba, former Minister of State Foreign Affairs, Salamatu Ibrahim, former PDP Chairman, Alhaji Ahmadu Ali and top presidential aides.

Nigerian as people are very united! The only problem they have is that we have no country to call ours! Tell me, on what basis are we not united. Do you want all Nigerians to become muslim like you!? Or for all to dress like etueke people. No, the problem is with you and your cohorts who know the right things but wouldn't do them. If Nigerians were dogs from England or America, they would simply allow each region to govern themselves while still living together in that same piece of land called Nigeria. But YOU, decendants of epe, cannot understand ABC.
