PHCN operating illegal pension scheme - Nnaji, Koripamo-Agary

MINISTER of Power, Professor Barth Nnaji and the Federal Govern-ment’s chief negotiator in the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN),/labour crisis, Dr Timiebi Koripamo-Agary, on Thursday, said the PHCN and the trade unions have been operating illegal pension scheme since 2007, in disregard to the Pension Reform Act 2004.

Speaking at a media forum in Lagos, they insisted that the government would not allow the lawlessness to continue, as President Goodluck Jonathan had also directed that the law of the country must be followed, because Nigeria is a nation governed by rules of law.

Professor Nnaji, who spoke on the efforts by the government to ensure effective power supply, through the privati-sation agenda and the ongoing reform process, said the privatisation must be concluded while the reforms must go on.

He, however, pointed out that the only obstacle to the reform process in the power sector was the labour movement, regretting that for 14 months, government had been negotiating with labour with no tangible progress recorded.
