THE management of Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) has denied that the men, who were electrocuted, on Saturday, at Eleyele area of Ibadan, Oyo State, were staff the company.

According to a release signed by the Public Affairs Manager of the company, Omoladeeni Obisesan, the electrocuted men were licenced electrical contractors who were working on high tension wires.

The PHCN added that the tragic incidence occurred due to the failure of the contractors, who worked on high tension wires with the aim of “constructing a new overhead line with the new transformed and other allied distribution items” on the accounts of the Eleyele community.

The company also said it sympathised with the families and friends of the deceased contractors, while charging its customers to handle electricity with care and to relocate from power line routes.

It reminded the general public on the need to keep a mandatory distance of 5.5 metres, 12.5 metres and 25 metres of 11KV/33KV lines, 132KV and 330KV lines respectively, saying: “electricity is meant to make life better. It should not be used or handled in a manner that can destroy life and properties.”

He said the PHCN had reported the case to Eleyele police station for investigation.
