A five-member committee has been set up by Taraba State House of Assembly to verify the sources of revenue in both the state and the local government areas.

This followed a matter of urgent public importance raised by the member representing Lau constituency, Honourable Joseph Albasu Kunini.

The committees, among other things, would verify government revenue accounts, establish evidence of revenue that accrued to government accounts in the last 12 months and also to determine to process and procedures for the collection of government revenue.

Honourable Kunini said despite the many sources of government revenue in both the state and the local governments, the revenue base of the state was still dwindling.

He suggested that government should establish a data bank for the state to enhance the promotion of transparency in revenue generation in the state.

In their contributions, members representing Takum II, Mark Useni, Aminu Umar, Jalingo II, John Bonzena, Zing and Mohamed Gwampo, Yorro constituency expressed their support for the motion and described it as timely in view of the poor revenue base of the state government.

The lawmakers expressed concern over the poor revenue base of the state, adding that if efforts were not geared towards improving it, government would not be able to pay salaries considering constant fluctuation of revenue from the federation account. They called on their colleagues to support the motion.
