FOLLOWING a tip-off, the Nigerian Army, last Saturday, uncovered an arms and ammunition industry in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

Parading  two of the suspects before newsmen on Tuesday, the commander, Guard Brigade, Brigadier-General Emmanuel Atewe, said at about 10.12 a.m last Saturday, troops deployed in Akwanga forest arrested Bello Bulus Agison and Iliya Noma in Akwanga, for being in possession of one locally-made single barrel pump action gun at a military checkpoint.

According to him, the suspects were on their way from Lafia to Panda at the time of their arrest.

The guard brigade commander disclosed that preliminary investigation conducted by the unit revealed that the suspects bought the items from a local manufacturer in Takpa.

Consequently, investigators moved to Takpa and were able to discover the house where the weapon was sourced in Takpa, on the outskirts of Lafia.

Further investigations led to the discovery of a gun making factory and the discovery of a large cache of arms and ammunition.

The arms manufacturer, on sighting the soldiers, jumped from the one-storey building and escaped by scaling the fence.

Meanwhile, the arms manufacturer, Adoji Akolo, has been declared wanted, while intelligence and military police corps are trailing him and other members of the syndicate.

Items recovered from the factory included 11 dane guns, two locally-made pistols, one welding machine, hand drilling machines and three bench devices.

Other items included 36 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 39 7.62mm special ammunition and large quantity of charms.

Also, a Toyota Corolla car and a Toyota Camry car were recovered from the suspects.
