A former acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Pastor Power Ziakede Aginighan, on Monday, appealed to the National Assembly to take advantage of the ongoing constitution to review penalties, up to life jail for electoral offenders.

Pastor Aginighan, in an online message he personally signed, also congratulated Edo State governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomole, on his victory at the last July 14 governorship poll.

He commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the peaceful, orderly, credible and transparent conduct of the elections in Edo State.

He also lauded President Goodluck Jonathan for keeping faith with his pledge to ensure one man, one vote, one woman, one vote and one youth, one vote policy.

“His resisting the temptation to use the instruments of coercion at his disposal as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to subvert the popular will of the Edo people in favour of his party is a signal that there is light at the end of tunnel in our quest for a truly democratic Nigeria”, he said.

Pastor Aginighan urged the National Assembly to take advantage of the ongoing review of the constitution to provide for staggered elections to ensure adequate security protection for all the voters during elections.

He said elections involving the 36 states of the country should be staggered so that elections were not conducted in more than six states at a time.
