THE current vehicle number plates and driver’s licence will become invalid by 2013, the Federal Government has said.

While the driver’s licence will become invalid by October 1, 2013, the current number plates would not be allowed on Nigerian roads from July 31, 2013.

The position of the government was made known on Tuesday, by the Joint Tax Board, at a news briefing.

The secretary of the board, Mallam Moha-mmed Abubakar, who addressed newsmen, said the board of the tax body approved a downward review of the enhanced vehicle and motor number plates, with effect from August 1, 2012.

While those who wanted to revalidate their current standard plates were to part with N10,000, those registering new vehicles would pay N12,000.

For old motorcycle number plates, revalidation would cost N2,000, while new registration would cost N2,500.

The prices of other categories of number plates and driver’s licence remained unchanged.

It was also announced at the brieifing that the Biometric Central Motor Registration or the Electronic Central Motor Registration would no longer be required for the registration of motor vehicles.

Just last week it was reported by Tribune Newspaper that new plate no will attract N8,400 why sudden change again to N10,000 this week? PHCN increased electricity tariff to N12.30 as against N11.00 widely reported plus compulsory payment of N500 as Billing Period either there is light or not. My question now is Why is it that govt always delight pleasure in making life so difficult and unbearable for the poor masses? NLC, Trade Union,Human right activists and others are pretending as if they are not aware of this. they only make noise if petrol price is increased. we are waiting for your action(s) on this.

Eventually when you get to get this new plate number, you spend 25-35k. yet they will still go ahead and say it is 10k on their silly media. thank God my DL is still valid. It will take time before they eat my 12k on it.
