THE people of Kogi State, on Monday, lost one of the oldest first class traditional ruler, Alhaji (Dr) Aliyu Obaje, the Attah of Igala, who dies at the age of 102.

Dr Obaje died on Monday at Idah, at about 2.00 p.m.

The late Attah Igala was enthroned on November 2, 1956.

He was the president of state council of chiefs and chairman, Igala Traditional Council of Chiefs.

The late Attah of Igala was appointed a minister without portfolio by the late Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello.

He was also a member of two constitutional conferences in London, in the build-up to Nigeria’s independence.

The late Attah of Igala was highly revered by his people and he enjoyed relationships in various parts of Nigeria.

A devout Muslim, the late Attah was survived by his wives and many children, among whom is Chief Abdullahi Obaje, a national ex-officio member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Meanwhile, the Kogi State government is finalising burial arrangements with the family, according to a press statement issued on Monday by the Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to the state governor, Mr Jacob Edi.
