BAUCHI State governor, Mallam Isa Yuguda, on Monday, announced the sack over 4,000 political appointees in the state, while he retained the services of appointees for essential services.

A statement dated July 15, 2012, signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Ibrahim Dandija, made available to journalists in Bauchi on Monday, said those sacked included directors-general, senior special assistants, senior special assistants II, special assistants and senior assistants II, adding that the termination of their appointments was with immediate effect.

The decision to sack political appointees, according to the statement, followed “complaints by stakeholders that the political appointments were lopsided and did not reflect the structure of the ruling party in the state, local government and ward levels.”

The statement stated that political appointees attached to Governor Yuguda and his deputy, Alhaji Sagir Aminu Saleh, Managing Director, National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), whose services were essential were not, however, affected by the sack, saying that they were on essential services.

Sacking of Political Aides

One begins to wonder what roles these aides play in the development of the Bauchi State other than just using the appointment to settle them for roles played during the election which most times were dubious roles.
But the question that readily comes to mind is what will the Governor do with the money now? Will the money be truly used for the Bauchi people or go to the pockets of those that were not touched in the sweeping change?
