The Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC), on Thursday, said it had suspended its strike scheduled for Thursday.

Mr Bede Opara, the president of the union, disclosed this in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

He said the suspension followed the outcome of  last Friday’s meeting with Chief Emeka Wogu,  the Minister of Labour and Productivity.

NAN recalled that the union planned to embark on the strike to protest the recent sack of three top officials of the Transmission Company of Nigeria and the Power Holding Company (PHCN).

Opera said the minister had scheduled another meeting with all PHCN unions on Friday, to find ways to address the crisis in the power sector.

“The proposed strike has been put on hold, pending the outcome of the meeting of the Minister of Labour with all the unions.

“That the strike has been temporarily put on hold does not mean it will not hold, but we have to obey the appeal of the minister of labour,” he said.
