FAAN stalls hearing on termination of contract signed with Maevis

MoveS by the House of Representatives Committee on Treaty and Agreements to wade into the tussle between the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and a private company, Maevis Nigeria Limited, over the termination of 10-year multi-billion naira concession contract signed with the indigenous company in 2007 were stalled on Tuesday, as the management of FAAN did not show up.
This is coming just as the Executive Director of Maevis, Mrs Tokunbo Fagbemi asked FAAN to account for about N42 billion it generated and remitted to the FAAN, saying that “ the management of FAAN should be called to account for this huge sum of money received from Maevis.”
The House committee, led by Honourable Yaccoub Alebiosu, had decided to wade into the imbroglio between the FAAN and Maevis, following the latter’s petition to the committee.
However, the FAAN management failed to show up, while the Minister of Aviation, Mrs Stella Adaeze Oduah, wrote the committee and asked for the postponement of the meeting, claiming that the House Committee on Aviation was already looking into the matter.
With this development, the chairman of the committee promised Maevis management that the issue would be resolved.
Mrs Fagbemi had said “there is no doubt that Maevis has a validly subsisting public-private partnership (PPP) agreement which it entered into with the FAAN for the provision of Airports Operations Management System (AOMS) at four of the nation’s airports – Murtala Muhammed Airport Lagos, Nnamdi Azikwe Airport Abuja, Port Harcourt and Kano Airports.
“This agreement was entered into in October 2007. It is imperative to point out that the AOMS, which Maevis was contracted and has been implementing at the airports is more far-reaching than the revenue collection which the management of FAAN is attempting to reduce it into.”
