The feud between the ruling Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and Accord Party in Oyo State deepened on Monday, when members of the political parties clashed over a project in Oluyole Local Government Area of the state.

The chairman of Accord Party in the council area, Honourable Ogunrin Fatai, while briefing newsmen in Ibadan on Wednesday, said that members of the party had gone to inspect the rehabilitation of Muslim-Egbeda-Atuba road and River Ogbere Musfala Bridge, when they were attacked.

He said that the project, which was initiated by a member of the House of Representatives, representing Oluyole federal constituency, Honouable Ibraheem Olaifa, had affected many lives, hence the lawmaker decided to rehabilitate the road and the bridge before rainy season.

He recalled that during the last flood in the state, which claimed several lives, and since the state government had come to the aid of the residents, he approached the lawmaker who decided to embark on the rehabilitation.

He said that they were at the site when members of the ACN, accompanied by men of “Operation Burst,” stormed the area and attacked them and unleashed terror on them.

He added that members of Accord Party were beaten while some of them ran for safety.

Speaking with Nigerian Tribune on phone, the House of Representatives member said that he decided to embark on the project following pleas from the residents on the need to rehabilitate the road and the bridge before the commencement of another rainy season.

When contacted, the ACN Publicity Secretary in the state, Mr Dauda Kolawole, told Nigerian Tribune that the project was being carried out by the state government and it was gathered that the Accord Party members were trying to destroy the project while people were mobilised to the site to stop them.

He said that members of the “”Operation Burst” were drafted to the place to forestall a breakdown of law and order.

He said that with the intervention of policemen from Ogbere Police Station, the situation was brought under control.
