The Federal Government, on Tuesday night, absolved ex-militants undergoing training in Warri, Delta State, from the explosion that rocked Lawfab Hotel, Osubi, last Monday, saying that the blast was caused by a faulty water heater.

Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Mr Kingsley Kuku who visited the affected hotel to have an on-the-spot assessment, said there was no way the ex-militants could have bombed the place where they were residing, some of them with their families.

He said the briefings he got from the management and staff, as well as the ex-militants, pointed to the fact that there was no bomb blast in the hotel, but an explosion from a water heater in one of the rooms of the two-storey building.

Mr Kuku also observed that there was no fire that usually trails any bomb blast in anywhere at the scene and wondered why the incident was attributed to bomb explosion, noting, however, that the Federal Government would await the outcome of police investigations.

Kuku said there was no rift between the trainees (ex-militants) and the management of the hotel or their trainer as insinuated in media reports, noting that he had a way of interacting with them to obtain first hand information on their needs or grievances.

He noted that with relative peace in the Niger Delta, the nation was gaining an additional production of 1.9 million barrels per day, which had earned Nigeria trillions of naira per year.
