THE Jigawa State Independent Electoral Commission (JISIEC) will recruit about 10,000 ad hoc staff to carry out the forthcoming local government election scheduled to hold on February 18.

This was disclosed by the chairman of the JISIEC, Alhaji Muhammed Ahmed, speaking when declaring a three-day capacity building workshop to the state electoral body officials in Dutse, on Tuesday.

The chairman said the training workshop had been organised with a view towards enhancing the professional atitude and capacity building of the staff of the commission, local government electoral officers and their deputies and the returning officers of the 27 local government councils in the state for effective and efficient service delivery.

Alhaji Ahmed explained that the training workshop carried out by the International Federation for Elections System (IFES), whose vision and mission was to ensure that elections were conducted in such manner to be considered as acceptable.

According to him, “it is, therefore, in view of the drive by the commission to conduct a transparent and credible election synergises with IFES to conduct the training programme in focus.”

He than expressed the commission’s appreciation to IFES and the resource persons for making the programme reality and called on the participants to make good use of the opportunity and put what they have learnt to practice during the local government polls.

Also speaking the programme manager of the IFES, Dr Jide Ojo said it was the JISIEC that requested his organisation to train its personal in respect of the forth coming local council polls.
