A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Nigeria Police and the Police Service Commission (PSC) to pay an injured lady officer attached to Iyaganku Division, Oyo State Command, Funke Jimoh, all her salary and allowance between August 16, 2004 and April 2, 2008.

Delivering judgment in suit no FHC/ABJ/CS/556/2010 brought against the duo by the officer, Justice Abdu-Kafarati also directed the defendants to provide proper medical treatment for the plaintiff, considering that she sustained her injuries in the course of discharging her duty.

The officer sustained injury in her hips in 2000 while participating in the mandatory police cross-country race training exercise at Eleyele Police Training School, Ibadan.

She ended up with ‘Avascular Necrosis of the head of Femur’ for which doctors at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, recommended surgical operations in Germany.

She claimed in the affidavit supporting the suit that “I promptly wrote a letter through the Oyo State Commissioner of Police to the Inspector General of Police for financial assistance to enable me to undergo surgical operations in Germany as recommended by the UCH.”
