Armed robbers, on Tuesday, raided a police station in Agenebode, headquarters of Estako East Local Government Area of Edo State, killing a police officer and carting away arms and ammunition.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that the rampaging robbers sacked the entire police station as they unleashed a reign of terror during which they killed a young female police officer, sending the other officers  scampering for safety.

At the end of the operation which lasted several hours, the armed robbers carted away arms and ammunition from the police station.

The robbers reportedly took the policemen on duty at the police station by surprise, opening fire on them without giving the policemen the opportunity to return fire, a development which now made the policemen took to their heels.

The robbery attack brought commercial activities in the area to an unexpected halt as banks and other business concerns in Agenebode closed their doors for businesses and went into hiding for fear of being robbed or killed in the absence of any police protection.

Sources said the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kachi Udeoji, was at Agenebode with some senior police officers shortly after the robbery incident to get first hand information on the attack.

The Public Relations Officer of the state Police Command, Mr. Peter Ogboi, did not pick calls put to him on the matter as his mobile phone was said to be busy at the time of the calls.

However, a police source who pleaded anonymity, confirmed the attack, saying they were still taking inventory of the arms and ammunition taken away by the robbers.
